'Throw your hat over the fence'
Think about it. How many projects do you have in mind that you can't seem to start?
Richard Schneider, writing in Guideposts, passes on this advice given to him by his father: "Throw your hat over the fence."
That is, if you face a fence that seems too big to climb, throw your hat over it.
Then you'll have to figure out how to get to the other side.
The advice boils down to taking a first step that commits you to further action.
Landscape your yard? An imposing project, but if you buy 20 bags of mulch, you'll have to start.
A project at the office? Tell your Boss that you will work on it, and you have committed yourself.
Save some money? Arrange to have an amount deducted from each paycheck or from your checking account, and you have started.
Step forward, even if the first step is a small one, like throwing your hat over the fence. Commit yourself to action, and you'll be on your way.
