New Zero X motorcycle is battery powered

Because it is designed with space-age materials, Scott Motorcycles' 130-pound Zero X electrobike can hit speeds up to 60 mph. It can do 25-foot jumps off a dirt ramp.

The motorcycle is powered by lithium-ion battery cells which can be yoked together in a confined space without bursting into flames.

Highlighted in Fortune, writers say it may prove to be the first ecologically correct vehicle to move to Main Street America.

It was designed by NASA spacecraft engineer Neal Saiki. The motorcycle is lightweight, easy to maneuver and perfect for trips of 40 miles or less. It costs $6,900.

It doesn't make any noise. Recently, the key was connected to an orange bracelet so riders would know whether or not it was turned off. The key/bracelet arrangement was requested by riders who were leaving their bikes on.

At this writing, the Zero X is approved only for trails, but a new street version is due out within the next few months.

The street bike will be sightly larger and more powerful than the dirt bike.
