Take me out to the ball game (with my pooch)

"Dog days" are something else during baseball season. Not only are they the hottest days of the year, they're also the days you can take Fido along to a baseball game.

Though pooch-to-the-park days have long been held in the minor leagues, last year the major leagues offered several. They included the Mets at Shea Stadium, Chicago White Sox, who have had a doggie game since 1996, the Florida Marlins, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Oakland Athletics.

Usually, a section of the outfield stands is reserved for fans who bring their canine pals. There are areas set aside for dog walking. If the doggie doesn't make it to the specified area, the owner is expected to make a cleanup.

Last year, tickets for the June 10 game in St. Louis were $80 per person. (Dogs didn't need a ticket.) Food and beverages were available only for people.

At that game, people with dogs had to use a special entrance and show proof of the dog's shot records. Just one dog for each two persons was allowed.

Check your major or minor league ballpark for specific dates.
